Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus

It is one of the most impressive archaeological monuments in Greece, with origins dating back to around the 4th century B.C. This theatre is an excellent example of ancient architecture with unique acoustics, as voices can be heard like magic throughout the theatre, even in the high stands. In ancient times it was the place where the patients of Asclepius attended theatrical performances, while today every summer visitors have the opportunity to watch ancient theatre performances as part of the Epidaurus - Athens Festival.

It is worth visiting the small picturesque village of Epidaurus with its traditional taverns and beautiful alleys, as well as the beaches of the surrounding area.

 

Archaeological site of Mykines

The archaeological treasure of Mykines is a place where history awakens in front of the visitors. Villages of Arcadia

Arcadia is a treasure in the heart of the Peloponnese and a year-round destination. Among lush plane trees and dense forests, traditional villages welcome you to a world full of history and authentic hospitality. At the top of the hills, you will find Vytina, a beautiful village with stone and wood buildings. Next to it, Levidi, known for its thermal springs and then Dimitsana at an altitude offering stunning views of Mount Mainalo and Stemnitsa with its traditional architecture.

Cape Tainaro

Cape Tainaro is the most southern point of mainland Greece and is located about 100km south of Kalamata. In ancient times, the Greeks believed that the gate of Hades was located there. Today you will see there the ruins of the ancient sanctuary of Poseidon and the necromancy, where the ancient Greeks believed that the souls of the dead communicated with the living.

The steep cliffs, blue waters and beautiful beaches create a breathtaking landscape. You can walk along the path that leads to the lighthouse of Tainaros which offers stunning views of the Aegean Sea, swim in the beautiful beaches or enjoy the sun and the sea in one of the taverns or cafes of the area.

The route from Kalamata to Tainaros follows the coastline of Messinian and Laconian Mani, passing by beautiful villages and picturesque beaches. It is worth visiting the villages of Porto Kagio, Marmari, Gerolimenas and the capital of Mani, Aeroopolis.
